All members interested in serving as a BCDS Officer are welcome to self-nominate or nominate a colleague at the meeting. The BCDS Nominating Committee has offered the following slate for consideration:

  • President Elect: Leanne Fulton
  • Board Executive (to a two year term): Carolynn Howard
  • Treasurer (to a one year term, completing a two year cycle): Steve Crichton

If any members wish to bring any business or motions to the AGM, you are encouraged to contact us as soon as possible. See you next Saturday!

2015-16 Duck Golf

We’ve made a number of important adjustments to this year’s Duck Golf league. Full details can be found on the Duck Golf web page. Highlights include:

  • All events are now PDGA sanctioned for all divisions
  • Registration rates have been standardized by division. Assuming you are a current PDGA and BCDS member, fees are: $40 for all Open divisions; $30 for all Advanced divisions; $25 for all Intermediate divisions; $20 for Novice divisions; and $10 for Juniors.
  • If you are not a current BCDS member, you will be required to join the day of the event ($10 for a full year membership). If you are not a current PDGA member, you can either join the PDGA at the event, or pay a $10 fee for the event (if you plan to play more than 4 events, it will save you money to join the PDGA).
  • Total series fees remain the same, but there will be smaller CTP and Ace pots to cover the PDGA fees ($5 to the series; $2 to the PDGA; $1 to the BCDS; $1 CTP; $1 Ace).
  • To increase transparency, new payout tables are in use for all events. TD’s may also use the tables rounded to $5. TD’s MUST use one of these tables for payouts.

Questions or comments should be directed to the Duck Golf Coordinators or any board officer.

AGM to be held October 3

Provincial Funding Opportunity

Funding of up to $5,000 from EventHostBC for community events is available to help run community events. The Government of British Columbia is providing one-time funding for small community events that strengthen volunteer capacity for event hosting throughout the province.

EventHostBC will provide a total of $250,000, divided among the six provincial tourism regions, to encourage events that are currently ineligible for other provincial government funding. Eligible non-profit organizations may apply for up to $5,000 per event. As long as the broader community can participate, the type of event is fairly open – it could be sports, arts or culture related, or some other creative idea supported by the community. Applications will ONLY be accepted between May 19 and June 30, 2015.
Details: http://www.cscd.gov.bc.ca/arts_culture/eventhostbc.htm. Please let the BCDS know if you plan to apply for these funds and let us know how we can help you.

2015 BCDS grant programs announced

The BCDS Board is pleased to announce funding for two grant programs in 2015, as detailed below. Contact any BCDS Officer for details. Applications are due by May 24, 2015.

Current Grants

BCDS Innovation Fund Course Development Grant

BCDS Innovation Fund

The BCDS is pleased to announce another round of Innovation Grants available to individual BCDS members or member clubs in 2015.  The Innovation fund is designed to support efforts to expand the reach of disc golf in BC.

All current BCDS members and member clubs are eligible to submit a grant request.

Grants can be for any amount, however a total pool of $2000 is available. Grants will be awarded on a competitive basis.

The program is designed to let members be creative in their applications, and funds will be awarded based on the following priorities:

  • Generates new members
  • Generates shared revenue for the BCDS or Affiliated Clubs where appropriate
  • Expands the community of golfers (focused on increasing participation and BCDS membership among youth, women, older players, and other under-represented populations)
  • Sustainability

Applications must be received by the President no later than May 24, 2015.

Course Development Fund

BCDS has allocated $6,000 to a provincial course development fund for 2015. Applications must be received by a BCDS Board Member no later than May 24. All BCDS Affiliated Clubs can apply for up to $1000 in aid. All requested funds must have a cash-match from the club. Successful applicants will be expected to provide a report of the results of the grant to be presented at the AGM and archived on the Website. A letter of support from the municipality is required for all infrastructure improvements and course development, unless the course is on private land (in which case a letter of support from the owner is required).

To apply for these funds, please send a description of your course development project, as well as details regarding how the funds will be spent, to any BCDS Officer. Closing date is May 24, 2015.

Grant funds must be used for course development, improvement, or installation.
