Through the support of the Province of BC, in 2013 members of British Columbia Disc Sports saw, among other activities, significant enhancement to existing courses; the creation and development of local clubs; the installation of new courses; support for the Canadian Disc Golf Championships and the Rocky Mountain Challenge; and an expanded focus on improving member experience at events throughout the year.
We are pleased to announce that the Province of BC has recognized the growth and development of disc sports realized by the BCDS membership and has provided us with a $20,000 grant to continue the work of expanding our member base, building local infrastructure, and improving access to competitive play. The announcement comes well into our fiscal year, so we are about to become very busy!
Our success in program expansion, sport development, and granting, is only possible because of our membership model and the provincial organization of disc sports. Thank you to all the volunteers and members who organized clubs and supported our events—without you this level of success would not have been possible.
Community Sport Enhancement Grants
Grants will be offered to affiliated clubs who would like to host a community event that encourages the playing of disc sports or improves the accessibility of disc sports in their community. Up to $500 will be awarded to host events. Examples would be a discover disc golf event for the community, hosting skills clinics, or running an ice bowl that raises food and funds for local food banks, etc.
Disc Sport Development
Provincial Competition Program
The BCDS looks forward to investing in TD clinics, player development clinics, and supporting event officials. We will also strengthen support the BC Club Championships, the Provincial Disc Golf Championship, and regional tournament programs in the interior, on the islands, and in the lower mainland.
Finally we look forward to recognizing and thanking our volunteers. The hard work of disc enthusiasts throughout the Province has led to an explosion in play at all levels and taken our sport to new levels of success.
Stay tuned to the BCDS Website (www.discbc.com) for details! Please contact a Board Officer with any questions or comments.
